Bernard G. RethoreMr. Rethore is Chairman of the Board Emeritus of Flowserve Corporation and was its founding Chairman & CEO. He had previously served as Chairman, President & CEO of BW/IP, Inc., one of Flowserve's predecessor companies, as President of the diversified manufacturing business of Phelps Dodge Corporation, and as President & CEO of Microdot Industries. Before Microdot, Bernie was a Senior Engagement Manager in the Washington office of McKinsey & Company. Bernie is a Director of Dover Corporation and Mueller Water Products Co. He has served on the boards of 8 public companies, a mutual insurance company, and numerous academic & not-for-profit organizations. In 2008, he was named an Outstanding Director in the U.S. by the Financial Times Outstanding Directors Exchange. In 2012, Bernie was designed a Board Leadership Fellow by NACD.
Carol MoerdykCarol Moerdyk is a Michigan native and met her husband, Jim, at the University of Michigan when they were in graduate school there. She spent most of her working years in management roles for an international manufacturing and distribution company. Now retired, Carol and Jim live with two dachshunds in Scottsdale, Arizona and Sun Valley, Idaho. Carol currently serves on three for-profit boards: a NYSE-listed company, a NASDAQ-listed company, and one of the country's largest ESOP-owned companies. She very much values the NACD organization and has benefited from its publications, its national conference and its local chapters.
Stephen A. McConnellStephen founded Solano Ventures 25 years ago as a private equity firm that focuses on debt and equity investments primarily in Arizona. Business ventures have included over 200 investments in enterprises such as software design firms, high tech manufacturers, construction-related enterprises, and financial services. Mr. McConnell has purchased and operated several distinct businesses in the Southwestern U.S. His earlier experiences ranged from working with a Wall Street private equity firm to a Canadian/U.S. public company, where he served as its President & CEO. Today, Mr. McConnell oversees a portfolio of some 40-different businesses, of which he serves on 15 different public and private Boards of Directors. His educational background includes a BA and MBA.
Phyllis BiedessPhyllis Biedess has experience in managed care, long term care, public health and alternative/integrative medicine. Among her past positions are the CEO of Maricopa County Integrated Health System; Senior Vice President of United Health Group, Ovations Division; Director of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System; President & CEO of American Centers for Health & Medicine; and President & CEO of Samaritan Health Plan. Phyllis has been on the boards of Mutual Insurance Co. of Arizona and the District Medical Group, Inc. Her educational background includes BA and MS degrees.
Lawrence TaylorLawrence is a seasoned executive and advisor with more than 30 years of business experience. He has led organizations through complex restructurings, acquisitions and capital transactions. He has set strategic, operating and turnaround strategies across multiple industries including casino gaming, hospitality, manufacturing, aviation, real estate, retail, healthcare and medical technology. Currently a board member of a private company, he has served on multiple boards and board committees including two companies that were in Chapter 11 - once as an executive and once as an independent director and chair of the restructuring committee.
